Thailand is a safe country for most tourists, with the crime against foreigners being very rare. However, pickpocketing and bag snatching can happen in busy places like markets, so be careful.

In general, visitors should exercise caution when consuming alcohol. Avoid walking alone at night and avoid showing off your valuables.

Thailand has an active drug scene, so if drugs are not something you are interested in, it may not be the best place for you to go.

There is also a risk of malaria in Thailand. If you plan on staying in the jungle or river areas between November and April, you should take antimalarial medications such as chloroquine or doxycycline to prevent this disease. If you plan on spending time in Bangkok during this time period, use insect repellent and stay in screened-in areas away from the river to protect yourself from mosquito bites.

A culture of disrespect towards women exists in Thailand; unfortunately, this can lead to sexual harassment and assault. Avoid walking alone at night and don’t wear revealing clothing to avoid being targeted by criminals.

Theft and robbery are the most common crimes in Thailand. These crimes can be committed by anyone, including strangers and family members. Thieves often target high-value items, such as expensive watches or jewelry, and may threaten or harm victims if they do not hand over the items.

Thailand has a well-developed criminal justice system, and law enforcement officials are typically able to apprehend and punish offenders. However, because theft and robbery are common crimes, victims may feel reluctant to report incidents to the police out of fear of being victimized again. In addition, some victims may be unwilling to press charges due to language barriers or cultural differences.

If you are a victim of theft or robbery in Thailand, you should report the crime to the police as soon as possible. You may also want to contact a personal security consultant to help you protect your belongings and safeguard your safety.
